[PATCH] Samba3 changes to help s3compat

I've got another bunch of Samba3 changes that I would like reviewed for
possible merge.  I put them up for review on IRC last night, but just
got comments on mixups in commit messages and commit splitting, but not
any on the actual code.  Therefore, I'm not sure if that is an 'ack' or
'nack'.  

They are attached, but are also in
http://gitweb.samba.org/?p=abartlet/samba.git/.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/s3compat-for-review

They pass 'make test', and as far as I'm aware the concerns already
raised have been addressed. 

Please indicate if they can be merged, or any remaining problems,
