Samba 4 cross-platform GUI

Hello,


I came up with the idea that it would be beneficial if there is a 
cross-platform gui written in java. From what I saw I think my idea is 
most similar to the windows mmc applet but written in java. What I'm 
interested in is to know how MMC applies settings to the samba 4 server 
- does it store it in an embedded ldap server in samba or does it use 
RPC. Any information regarding this matter would be helpful.
