I like them, and I've pushed them to my git repo as 'password-settings'.
(Also pushed your other patch).  I would like to merge them, but as you
indicate the setpassword patch needs to be reverted first, and out of
respect I would like for Matthias to comment first.  

(Matthias:  please merge my branch if that's the easiest way forward).
