Indeed.  While the current approach 'use ldb_request' nicely handles ABI
issues, it does so by simply pushing all the complexity back onto the
callers, which all then must implement very similar wrappers, or
endlessly repeat complex boilerplate.  

A similar thing has happened with the async module stack, and other
parts of LDB, and I really don't think it has made LDB a better
library.
