Merging your ldb branch

Simo,

I tried to test your ldb branch today, but the provision currently
fails.  When it works again (no hurry, just an open-ended offer) I'll
happily give it a run against the LDAP backend. 

I've also prepared a snapshot of OpenLDAP that I know to work.  How
would you like me to get that to you?

I'm sorry this has been such a saga.  I've read over some of the module
changes, and while I retain my reservations about being unable to handle
modifications during a search, they otherwise seem reasonable.
