I told you on the phone that I have seen segfaults with
exactly that fix, thus I stepped back from doing it and took
the hackish route to just fix the ones that popped up in
valgrind.

I deliberately did NOT do it this way because this code will
be removed anyway and we lived with this memory leak for
ages. I don't have the time now to test all callers under
these conditions, so I rely on Jerry with his huge test lab
to make sure that winbind is correct.
