Did I ever claim not to be fickle?
Now I have to figure out why I didn't want to do it at the time :-).
In this case, it also helped remove one more samba-special from the
schema, which we are getting increasingly close to validating at normal
runtime (as well as in the OpenLDAP backend).
My remaining challenge is to trigger the 'right thing' to happen on
modifies of unicodePwd, userPassword and the password change exop by
users and by administrators.
