getrealfilename() changes into 3.3

I've pushed the getrealfilename() changes ported from master
to 3.3. I'd like to see them in 3.3.0, on gpfs they
dramatically speed up our operation on large directories,
and other filesystems with a similar operation will also
benefit from that with a VFS module.

Given that Jeremy likes the patch in master :-)
