That fits in with the function of the other service types - public web
pages, IPP printers, etc.

Hmm - that's true. Perhaps service broadcast could only be enabled for
printers and shares with 'guest ok = yes'?
BTW I've made a git repository with the mDNS patch applied to try out
this distributed development malarky:
