How did you create the repo?  git-clone?  I just checked
and it worked fine for git 1.5.3.  Check and make sure
you .git/config looks similar to

[remote "origin"]
        url = git://git.samba.org/jerry/samba-draft.git
        fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
