For what it's worth, we used to set the OS attribute to 'Samba', and the
version to the Samba version, in the old join code.  

As a historical note...

On Snap's GuardianOS NAS boxes, this caused some customer concern, as
they got uppity about seeing 'Samba 3.0alpha24' in their AD (the word
alpha scares folks :-), so they changed it to 'Samba for GuardianOS',
with their OS version.
