Well, the installp command will allow you to auto increase the size of the filesystem, and the 768MB is to include large logs if you should need it.
Presently on one of my production boxes it looks like this:
[exsmb:/] # lslpp -l pware.*
Fileset Level State Description
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Path: /usr/lib/objrepos
pware.BerkeleyDB.4.4-NC.rte

So you should be in good shape. Remember that this packaging is intended to give you a full working environment. Prerequisites are listed as:
[exsmb:/] # lslpp -p pware.samba-3.0.23d.rte
Fileset Requisites
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Path: /usr/lib/objrepos
pware.samba-3.0.23d.rte 3.0.23.4
*prereq pware.base.rte 5.2.0.0
*prereq pware.libiconv.rte 1.9.2.0
*prereq pware.openldap.rte 2.3.27.0
*prereq pware.MIT-krb5.rte 1.4.4.1
You can try installing just the Samba bff which will auto install the prerequisites and auto extend the filesystem. That's about as minimal as you can get without building it yourself.
Cheers,
Bill
