Windows Browse Problem

All: 
I have just installed the 3.023d on our AIX 5.2 server. 
The only file that was modified was the services and inetd.conf. 
They were modified by the installation. 
>From the command prompt I only have the following processes as follows: 

# ps -ef | grep nmbd 
root 21576 10898   1 16:04:52      -  0:00 [nmbd] 
# ps -ef | grep smbd 
none 
In the web window it shows the smbd process is runniing and the nmbd is 
stopped. 
I tried to stop and start both with no luck. 
Whay can't we browse to the server share from windows?
