Thread safeness of winbind client

I'm playing with mod_auth_ntlm_winbind under load / Apache2, and am
seeing a lot of issues calling out to ntlm_auth (e.g. output messages
are getting mixed together in stdout, hanging on fgets / missed stdio ).

I'm contemplating calling winbind directly using
winbind_request_response(PAM_AUTH, ....) to satisfy basic auth
requests, instead of handing it off to ntlm_auth, but I'm not about to
try this in Apache2's multi threaded environment if it will create
problems into the winbind client libraries.

Has anyone seen / solved similar problems?

Thanks,
Todd
