reply_readbmpx carries the comment

        /* this function doesn't seem to work - disable by default */

Does anybody have client that actually uses these? Maybe
OS/2? If not, I would go and dump it together with the write
call in the conversion to the new API.

Likewise, does anybody know how I can test readbraw and writebraw?
