Thanks Volker.  Yes I believe I could make that work programmatically,
or alternatively use the LGPL'd libtdb I wrote to manage
winbind_idmap.tdb.  It's a little more "Samba aware" logic in our core
code, but we could live with it, assuming everyone agrees no GPL fault. 

I hear your concerns and know that unified UID/GID migration is a tough
problem, but I believe it's the sort of capability that Quest, Centrify,
and likely Centeris must solve - and the winbind_idmap.tdb is one of the
migration points. If you agree with the above statement, and the Samba
team wants to promote interoperability in a sanctioned way with products
from the above, then I think you would agree that the external control
the ID mapping cache just makes it a little easier for us.
