The idea was to build up a generic module that would solve these
tensions so that vendors and users are not required to create an endless
list of idmap_something modules, with potential misunderstandings in the
application of he GPL and basically a lot of work done again and again
and again.

I could have build my own private patch for my own distributed branch of
samba, instead I was trying to make something usable by as many as
possible.

This module have the potential of making happy a good number of users
and vendors which will concentrate on their idmap daemon and will be
able to run an unmodified samba by just configuring it properly.

I think this is a good thing, getting things easier is a remarkable goal
imho.

Simo.
