I know I'm being a bit aggressive about this, but
I still think that they should be moved to a VFS module
and out the main code path.  Only one administrative
purposes has been mentioned for them.  That wouldn't
have been enough to get a new feature into the tree.

But until we provide a VFS module, I agree that
we should not prematurely remove the parameters.
