getent returns partial list of groups

I have Samba 3.0.22 in a NT4 domain. I get a good list of NT groups with the
wbinfo -g command, but the command
getent group
Only returns a partial list of my groups. It will return all of my users
with the command
getent passwd

I think this is why I am unable to assign group access to a share.
