This is something we need to do, but something that I'm not even sure we
know. We know what we have already, but as Jelmer mentions, it's
particularly hard to pin down.

In the past, I've mostly tried to list the things that already exist
(Domain logon, PAC, KDC, samba4WINS etc), or are in the foreseeable
future (like MMC support). There are some other things folks tell us
are not 'too hard', like group policy, Samba3 and Apple Mac support.

My personal preference is for a focused release, intended to complement
Samba3 in providing what I fear will be a growing gap between what an
NT4 style DC can provide, and what folks feel they need (or else they
run AD). But clearly there is more to Samba than a DC, and there is
actually a very solid file-serving back-end on Samba4.

Samba3 does many things, and does them very well. That is what makes
choosing a feature set as a 'must have for Samba4 release' very hard. I
know that no matter what, we will leave some disappointed (either
because features are not present, or we wait too long for a release).

The other hard part is just guessing who will be putting time in. When
we rely on students, the unemployed and those prone to a spending a week
on a bicycle, things jump around a bit :-)

When my crystal ball returns, perhaps then I can make predictions :-)
