It's messy but what I could do it to define te svn:externals
prop for trunk as

  docs svn://svnanon.samba.org/samba/branches/SAMBA_3_0/docs
  examples svn://svnanon.samba.org/samba/branches/SAMBA_3_0/examples
  packaging svn://svnanon.samba.org/samba/branches/SAMBA_3_0/packaging
  pcp svn://svnanon.samba.org/samba/branches/SAMBA_3_0/pcp
  source svn://svnanon.samba.org/samba/branches/SAMBA_3_0/source
  swat svn://svnanon.samba.org/samba/branches/SAMBA_3_0/swat
  testsuite svn://svnanon.samba.org/samba/branches/SAMBA_3_0/testsuite

Then we have just a few rarely changing files in the
top level to worry about.

Just to clear, this means that no one (including ourselves)
would be able to check into those directories in trunk/
