Won't we have the same problems with groups?  For example,

[global]
   security = domain
   ## no winbindd

[share]
   valid users = +admin

I think the correct fix is to use create_token_from_username()
rather than just adding the SID.  The failure case was IMO
just a variation of the mapped username bug you originally fixed.
