When trying to run samba3 'make test' on IRIX I get a
different failure:

tdb(/home/sernet/samba_3_0/source/st/private/secrets.tdb): tdb_transaction: msync failed - Invalid argument
tdb(/home/sernet/samba_3_0/source/st/private/secrets.tdb): tdb_transaction_commit: failed to setup recovery data
pdb_generate_sam_sid: Failed to store generated machine SID.
PANIC (pid 18626250): Could not generate a machine SID

man msync on that box says that msync will fail with EINVAL
if "addr is not a multiple of the page size as returned by
sysconf(3C)".

Any ideas how to fix that?
