Jeremy,

The reason tdb no longer supports this is I have tried to hide the
form of the tdb context structure from callers. This is part of the
attempt to make tdb more able to be used as a library. Allowing
callers to directly manipulate the context fields makes it much harder
to have good forward compatiblity between versions of a shared
library.
