samba and ntml authentication question

I have a question.

I am running samba version 2.2.8a and we are authenticating users via an 
NT machine.  They are discussing turning on ntlm version 2 password 
authenication and I don't know if samba version 2.2.8a will handle 
that.  Does anyone know if this will work or do I have to add something 
to my smb.conf file when the change is made or do I need to upgrade to 
3.0 or recompile 2.2.8a with a flag to support ntlm version 2.
