Hello,
I'm having terrible trouble with Samba.
I've installed from SuSE 9.3 which gives me Samba 3.0.12 - This was later
upgraded to 3.0.13 by an automatic online update.
I have since upgraded further to 3.0.20 in an attempt to resolve this problem.
So far all these versions behave the same.
I was trying to get Samba to authenticate with openLDAP. The LDAP is running
fine, and I am using it to authenticate my mail via Cyrus.
My Samba host is helios.
If I execute smbclient -L helios I get the following:
# smbclient -L helios
Password:
Domain=[PERRINGS] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.20-4-SUSE]
Sharename Type Comment
--------- ---- -------
profiles Disk Network Profiles Service
users Disk All users
groups Disk All groups
pdf Printer PDF creator

shared Disk Shared Folder
IPC$ IPC IPC Service (LinuSoft Samba (3.0.20-4-SUSE)
Server)
ADMIN$ IPC IPC Service (LinuSoft Samba (3.0.20-4-SUSE)
Server)

Server Comment

HELIOS LinuSoft Samba (3.0.20-4-SUSE) Server
Workgroup Master
--------- -------
PERRINGS HELIOS
Note, I have not yet added any users to the smbpasswd file.
If I now add a user:
# smbpasswd -a stuart
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 4 (maximum password
age), returning 0
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 5 (minimum password
age), returning 0
Added user stuart.
Now when I execute smbclient -L helios I get the following:
# smbclient -L helios
Password:
session setup failed: Call returned zero bytes (EOF)
If I now comment out the new user in the smbpasswd file, the service behaves
as before.
I'm struggling with this now, any comment or help would be gratefully
received.
Many thanks,
Stuart.
