Actually, there's a more important problem with IRC. I can
demonstrate this easily.

Go to www.google.com and type : "samba non blocking socket"
into the search field and click "google search".

How many IRC discussions do you think show in the first
page ?

Now, how does anyone know what "tridge told darrel" on
an obscure IRC channel about this subject ?

IRC works for people making micro-decisions about code
they're *all* collaborating on immediately - compile
errors, syntax decisions, that sort of thing.

Use it for architectural decisions and you've just
excluded the very people that Open Source is supposed
to include.
