libnss_wins.so does not work under Solaris?!

Hello,

does libnss_wins.so work under Solaris 8? It seems not.

Renames libnss_wins.so to nss_wins.so.1 and copied it into /usr/lib

Added in nsswitch.conf:
hosts:  file dns wins

But a    ping  <hostname>   says only:
ping: unknown hostname


If ncsd is stopped, you can see with "truss ping hostname", that library
nss_wins.so.1 is loaded, but it does nothing?!
I even add a printf()  in _nss_wins_gethostbyname_r() in nsswitch/wins.c,
but no output. Seems that the entry point is either not called, or has a
wrong name?!

Any ideas?   Should libnss_wins.so work under Solaris?
