Hello,

In order to keep better track of this enhancement request I created bug
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2246 (severity=enhancement) in
bugzilla and linked it to this topic.

Once more the patch works for a broad range of unix filesystems. SAMBA on
older systems (e.g. Solaris 8) and vendor specific / commercialy available
filesystems benefit from it, too, since it doesn't require extended
attributes. Particularly files from unmodifiable filesystems - i.e. CD-ROM's
- can be accessed without DOS read only attribute. Thus enabling changing of
underlying storage from disk to ROM without changing DOS attributes to SAMBA
users.
