I know. But intuitively it is hard to explain and likely to get
broken as the code gets harder to maintain. No one has ever given me a
valid reason to run security = share these days. If you can show my
something that is possible (and practical) in security = share that
can't be done in security = user, I'll reconsider fixing these bugs.

Possibly, but I think the design was originally broken. We should never
be advertising user access control with share mode security IMO.
Basically, this one is really low on my priority since I would like to see
people move away from security = share anyways. But patches are always
welcome as long as the code doesn't get too confusing.
