Short name -> realname from unix?

Hello,

Is there a way to ask samba to make the windows short name -> real unix 
path mapping from a local process?
In details: I have a service, that does something to some files on 
request via TCP/IP from a windows client application. For various 
reasons, this application can only tell me the short name of the files 
it wants me to access. This is why I need to ask samba to tell me the 
real name of the files. Is there any way to do it?
