The offline file and oplock settings didn't make a difference.  However,
continuing the bisection search Samba 3.0.14a *passes*.  This would mean
that the issue occurred in the jump to 3.0.20, and therefore is not yet
in a production release.  

Now I have to start grabbing svn tagged releases (the old pre tarballs
are gone), but I'll look at 3.0.15pre2 and 3.0.20pre1.
