Questions about filelocking from a Linux Client

Hello,
I have noticed quite a bit of trouble on Linux systems being used as a
client to Windows boxes due to file locking issues. This seems to
affect most versions of Samba and the CIFS kernel module. Are there any
plans for a improved samba client or is there any good documentation on
this problem? You really notice this problem quite a bit using
applications like Microsoft Word or Access under CrossOver and Wine.
