This is because, as I think is described in a number of places, you
cannot use the 'squid' helpers with Samba 3.0. You must instead use
'ntlm_auth', a helper program provided by Samba 3.0 for exactly this
purpose.

The winbindd interface changes between every version of Samba, it's an
internal interface. To get things going, we originally had squid
calling that interface, but this is why we quickly dropped that idea...
