Volker, et. al.,
I've got another wrinkle to throw at you regarding the MS-DFS variable
redirection you're working on.
Here's the scenario: The user database has over 130,000 entries and each
of those 130K users has access to space on a hard drive. The disk space
is spread out between six or seven actual machines, and each user has
space on only one of those machines.
So, what we would like to do is base the redirection on the username.
This is similar to redirecting based on the IP address of the client.
It's only the variable used to determine the destination that's different.
It brings up the general question of using different factors to determine
whe DFS destination. I can imagine, for instance, that someone might use
information returned by an LDAP query to determine which DFS path to
return.
Will the DFS VFS (heh) handle this kind of variety?
I think that the specific problem I described might be something I can
handle in a script. I'm going to look into that. I just thought I'd
raise the question.
