Net join

Hi 
Sorry for writing to this technical, 

Am trying install samba3. latest, all our production servers are running samba 2.2.8a and I used smbpasswd to join domain

I see its been replaced with net join,

I don't have windows domain adminisstartion privileges, privious I used have windows admin add netbious account and then use smbpasswd to join samba server.


Can this be done in samba 3.0, can a root on unix join samba to the domain using net join( the root or me does not have admin previlegeson windows domain ) 

In samba3.0 onwards, does it a requirement for windows admin to join samba as member serrver?
