Sorry Dave but this is not an acceptable proposal for a number of
motivations.

First that come to mind are:

- the symlink will not follow the file, if you rename the original file
from unix and then renamre another unix file with the prevoius original
file name, you end up with problems

- it cludges the unix file view

- it make samba double slow when parsing a directory, and that happens a
lot on browsing on a file open.


The "right thing"(TM) to do is to store these attributes in EAs (Extendd
Attributes). Many filesystems today have EAs support so that is the
right direction.
