Detecting server version

Are you interested in discovering the server type or the client type.  
Sorry, I don't quite understand your request.

Trying to figure out what kind of server you're talking to may be
difficult, as most servers try to look as much like Windows as possible.  
Figuring out the client type is a bit easier.
