smbfs details???

Hi,
      i am a student working on samba for my final year project, especially on smbclient and smbfs.
          and i dont know much about how smbfs works.i didn't find anything useful on the internet.
              actually i want to know how a smbclient call can be traced down to a smbfs routines and then the lower level details...
                    so if any of you people know about smbfs can you tell us somthing - like online resources or anything like that...
                        i'll be thankful to you...
