  Well, the fact that the automounter doesn't find any mounts is surely your problem.
  And since it is unable to find home directories when logging in to Linux itself,
  Samba is not the issue.

  Unfortunately, I don't use NIS or LDAP to store automount maps so you should ask
  that question on some appropriate Linux list.
