metze has already asked me about a direct nss interface to ldb too,
and I think a Heimdal interface to ldb does make a lot of sense.

I think that ldb makes sense as a backend for a lot of these types of
services. It is lightweight, fast and extremely simple to use, plus
whenever you program for ldb you are automatically programming for
LDAP as well (as long as you can define a schema).

I know you were joking, but I really think that ldb has a lot of
potential well beyond just an internal part of Samba.
