convertSambaAccount doesn't handle machine accounts

ok.  I checked and we set this for 3.0 machine
accounts, but I don't have the 2.2 entries in
front of me right now.

Then you probably had an invalid schema to start with.
sambaAccount was originally structural but was changed
to auxilary a long time ago.
