ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Can someone please help me resolve this error)

Hello,
We have Samba installed on a Solaris 7 system. Something happened recently
where the users cannot change their own passwd using the smbpasswd command.
I can change it for them as root, but if they try it they get:

"machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the session setup. Error was : ERRSRV -
ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password pair in a Tree Connect or Session are
invalid.). Failed to change password for username"

I find many discussions regarding password encryption on Windows 98 and 95
and in the smb.conf file, as well as discussion about usermaps, etc... but
have found nothing yet that has helped me.

Can someone please tell me what this error means and how to resolve it?

Thank you,
