Migrating from Samba 2.2.8A PDC -> Samba 3.0 PDC

Something that we do where I work is redirect the desktop and my
documents folders to alternate locations so that this time can be
reduced. This seems to work fairly well for us considering that we have
users that have 1G+ of files on their desktop.  I'm not sure exactly how
this would be done with samba however.
