can't run smbd

Hello, can anyone help me with this error?  

#smbd -D                                                                  
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program smbd because of the following errors:
        0509-130 Symbol resolution failed for smbd because:               
        0509-136   Symbol strndup (number 198) is not exported from       
                   dependent module /usr/lib/libc.a(shr.o).               
        0509-192 Examine .loader section symbols with the                 
                 'dump -Tv' command.                                      

I get this when trying to run smbd and nmbd.  Does this mean I need a newer libc.a library?
