Quick terminology blurp.

CIFS and SMB are, at some level the same thing.  Well, okay, SMB is a 
filesharing protocol and, generally speaking, CIFS is the full suite (at 
least, that's how the terms are used today).

Point is, CIFS and SMB are not necessarily different things.  That's why we 
say "CIFS VFS" and "SMBFS" when referring to the client filesystem 
products.  These are two tools that implement the same features (in 
different ways).
