You can. I am working on a document to describe how you you would use
PoPToP, PPP and Samba to replace a Microsoft VPN server, but you could
use the same tools to handle the RAS component (just ignore the stuff
about PoPTop and MPPE).
It is currently hosted at http://hawkerc.net/staff/abartlet/comp3700,
but I'll get a better home for it soon.
Let me know what you think, as this report is 100% of the assessment
for one of my uni subjects :-)
