pam_smbpass and passdb backends

I tried and works well (smbclient, windows 98, 2000,XP, whatever).
Looks like pam_smbpass doesn't support passdb backends...

Try to test the mysql backend from smbd first - e.g. run smbd with
'passdb backend = mysql' and connect to it using smbclient. Then read
the logs for useful information.
