If the ocde is not ready, then it is not useful for the 3.0 
release.  This has been on of the major weaknesses in 3.0.
Dependencies on code that is not finished or not quite there.
Theoretical arguements about the zen of interfaces or ideal
design don't get releases out.  Doesn't matter how pretty it 
is if it doesn't work correctly or do what you need.  
The end result is working, maintainable code.  That's the only 
standard that matters.

And just for the record, I don't consider any of the idmap 
code to be a failure.  It was an intermediate step.  One 
never fully understand a problem until you code up a possible 
solution.  I've thrown away numerous implements of features 
in the past.  It's part of development.

So don't take any of the changes personally.
