That is a BAD place to put them! Profiles should preferably go into a
separate Profiles share. Each profile should go under it's own directory
within that share.

In my smb.conf I have:

        logon path = \\%N\profiles\%u

and:

[profiles]
        comment = Roaming Profile Share
        path = /var/lib/samba/profiles
        admin users = @adm
        read only = No
        nt acl support = No
        profile acls = Yes

What version is that? Not known here!

Current stable is 2.2.7a, 2.2.8 is in pre-release.
Next major release will be 3.0.0 (not before April).
